Mauri’s blanket class
Jan 11th, 2010 by miguel johnson
The following photos show how my wife Mauri, with a little bit of fabric, a little bit of time and some great friends like you … they were able to fill a great need in the lives of people and have a lot of fun doing it!In many of the villages, it gets extremely cold and the blankets are expensive to buy locally.
So my wife bought some fabric and started showing people out in the villages, how they could make their own tie-blankets with scissors and nothing else.
There is a little bit of training involved, keeping things straight and square, but after you put two pieces down together and then start cutting strips in them both, you can then tie them together without the need of sewing anything.
It has been a great way to help people learn how to help themselves and their neighbors. It has also been a great relationship builder and simply lets people know that we love them … because Christ first loved us.
Becky Riggs (with the movie star sunglasses) came down and showed us how it’s done and made a lot of new friends!
One time these three young guys and I, had to shovel 1/2 ” inch size hail from around the front of one of the houses, just so we could open the door … so it’s the real deal … it really does get cold in some of these places!
So, as you look through these photos, think about how God has gifted you … and what He would have you teach or share with the villagers. The most important thing however … is to be simply, willing … to serve others.
